A 2007 Audi S8 with 158k on the odo for 13 grand. I don't know if I should run away or towards it!

Timing. Chain. Guides. I guarantee it.

Judging by those wheels I’d say away. Far, far away.

Is that typical problem with the V10 in these?

Yea it sucks that a lot of the top end cars used have tacky ass wheels. Most times it was by whoever owned the car. Others I've seen that it's done by the dealers themselves to try and get more for the car.

So, like all of the timing chain-equipped Audis, the guides eventually wear out. 160k is a ton of miles, and some engines would be on their second set, nearing a need for their third, by then. If you do check it out, listen carefully for rattling noises near the back of the engine (where the cam drive is). Unfortunately, anything of that nature will require the engine to be pulled, and that’s a lot of labor. Still, that price is a screamer.

Yep. I usually use the wheels as a gauge of the owner. It’s sad though that most of those vanity/trashy wheels end up weighing a significant amount more than the factory wheels yet people still add them on.

If you’ve got $26,000 sitting in the bank, you might be able to get a small loan to cover the rest of what you’ll need for the first year.
